Mount Fuji(富士山)

Mount Fuji, located on Honshū, just between Yamanashi prefecture and Shizuoka prefecture, is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776.24 m (12,389 ft). It is still an active volcano that last erupted in 1707–1708. Mount Fuji lies about 100 kilometers (60 mi) south-west of Tokyo, and can be seen from there on a clear day. Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is snow-capped for about 5 months a year is so beautiful that it became kind of a symbol of Japan. Mount Fuji is frequently depicted in art and photographs, as well as visited by many sightseers and climbers.

Mount Fuji was added to the World Heritage List as a Cultural Site on June 22, 2013.

Fuji Five Lakes(富士五湖)

Fuji Five Lakes(Fuji-goko) is the name of the area located in an arc around the northern half of Mount Fuji which is in Yamanashi Prefecture of Japan. In ancient times, lava flow from a volcanic eruption of Mount Fuji spread across the area, damming up rivers and resulting in the formation of these five lakes. The scenic view of each lake with beautiful Mount Fuji in its background, they are all considered to be an excellent hiking and sightseeing area and attracting many tourists not only from inside Japan but also from all over the world. The principal city in the region, Fujiyoshida, has a population of roughly 50,000 and is particularly famous for its udon noodles and Chureito Pagoda at Arakurayama Sengen Park. The second largest town, Fuji-Kawaguchiko-machi whose population is about 25,000, is located at around Lake Kawaguchi and because of its convenience for public transportation and lodging, many tourists start their tour of Five Lakes or Mt. Fuji climbing from this town.

The name of the five lakes are;

(1) Lake Yamanaka(山中湖)

(2) Lake Kawaguchi(河口湖)

(3) Lake Sai(西湖)

(4) Lake Shoji(精進湖)

(5) Lake Motosu(本栖湖)
